Vodafone pins future on tiered data pricing, services

Mobile giant preps business for wave of data uptake in emerging markets; sells out of Softbank.

Vodafone on Tuesday revealed plans to introduce tiered mobile data tariffs in order to drive further revenue from Internet services, a strategy the operator says it will eventually implement across its entire European footprint. Alongside its 1H 2010-11 results announcement, and as part of an all-encompassing update on the company's strategy, the U.K.-based mobile giant also announced it has sold its interests in Softbank for £3.1 billion.
