Spain's Telefonica sets course for organic growth

Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica on Friday laid out projections of nine to 12 percent annual growth in core earnings to 2005, not by the aggressive deal-making of the past, but through organic growth. With a long-awaited Mexican mobile deal finally sealed, Chairman Cesar Alierta said Spain's largest company may still pull the trigger on an occasional deal, with an eye toward Mexico and Brazil, but mostly will focus on its current lineup.
