Social housing residents in Hounslow will soon have the opportunity to enjoy gigabit-capable broadband services from Hyperoptic, thanks to a blanket-wide wayleave the council has agreed with the company.

Hyperoptic enables its gigabit broadband speeds by installing its fibre all the way into the property, unlike many of the other broadband providers who only run fibre to the green box at the end of the street. Because of this ‘full fibre’ approach, users benefit from much faster, symmetrical broadband.

For the last ten years Hyperoptic has been steadily increasing its network footprint across the UK. It now has partnerships with over 250 developers and 50 councils, and is available in every borough in London.

The social housing sector has been a key priority for Hyperoptic since its inception, as there is a nationwide requirement to improve digital infrastructure and skills. As well as connecting 4,300 of Hounslow Council’s homes to its full fibre service, it will also be providing over 20 onsite complimentary connections to the likes of community centres to ensure local residents have access to a free service. Hyperoptic is also contributing funds towards Digital Inclusion projects across the borough.

Hyperoptic believes that affordability should not be a barrier to enjoying the benefits of a reliable, fast full fibre connection. It has recently launched ‘Hyperoptic’s Fair Fibre Plan,’ a new tariff that enables people on specific means-tested benefits to get access to discounted rates on its monthly rolling packages.

Councillor Pritam Grewal, Hounslow Council Cabinet Member for Customer Services and Corporate Performance: “Our partnership with broadband providers like Hyperoptic will provide great broadband for residents in the borough’s Council homes at affordable prices.

“Our vision is a borough where no-one is excluded from online services, work and social opportunities simply because they don’t have access to a reliable broadband connection and a suitable device. With the surge in people accessing our services online, it’s crucial that we make these services as easy-to-use as sending an email because these are services that people are using daily.”

Liam McAvoy, MD, Business Development, Hyperoptic: “Today marks another milestone in our mission to Gigabit London and bridge the digital divide. The last eighteen months have showcased just how much we need our broadband connection to be both seamless and reliable, to support us in how we want to work, learn and socialise. A full fibre connection from Hyperoptic can be trusted to support the Internet needs of the whole family.”
