x-Mobility has just announced usage figures that show a dramatic increase in global users of Vyke (www.vyke.com), its digital MVNO service. In the last quarter of 2020 x-Mobility’s AppVNO service increased its average new net additions by over 50%.

Vyke is a digital MVNO service that is downloaded as an app and can be used to subscribe to multiple mobile numbers, in addition to sharing credit and making free calls and texts to other Vyke subscribers. The service has grown globally with almost zero marketing spend or activity and has seen word of mouth drive the download growth.

As 2020 progressed, x-Mobility, the mobile enabler providing new telco revenues for brands and MNOs (www.x-mobility.com), also saw a dramatic increase in the number of AppVNOTM clients that it signed up to its white-label, digital MVNO service.

“2020 has seen a decrease in the number of new SIM-based MVNOs launching, but a dramatic increase in the number of digital MVNOs launching and enquiring,” said Shanks Kulam, co-founder of x-Mobility. “With more and more people globally working from home they can use their home Wi-Fi and don’t need an additional SIM-based service. But they still want the flexibility of a second line, free calls to contacts and international numbers on their existing handset. An AppVNO provides all of that.”

“Even while stuck at home in the pandemic, or possibly because of that, people still wanted to stay in touch with loved ones around the globe. They also wanted the additional flexibility of extra phone numbers, for social media app registration, dating or use for business calls,” said Iqbal Marcia at Vyke. “We’ve seen an increase throughout the year, but a dramatic increase in the last quarter as Christmas brought that desire to stay in touch to the forefront of people’s minds.”

With a run rate well in excess of 50,000 new net additions per quarter, Vyke has subscribers across the world, with Nigeria as the biggest current market measured by the number of subscribers. However, the fastest growing country over Q4 was Pakistan and Pakistan and India are now Vyke’s second and third biggest markets.

With Vyke operating globally and x-Mobility having recently launched new AppVNO clients in Africa and with new global launches coming soon, 2021 could be the year of the digital MVNO.
