CTech Group and Experian collaborate to provide credit checking services to retailers selling SIM Only

London based technology business CTech Group has agreed to work with Experian to provide instant and accurate credit checking to retailers offering network ‘SIM Only’ products. London based technology business CTech Group has agreed to work with Experian to provide instant and accurate credit checking to retailers offering network ‘SIM Only’ products.

The partnership solves a complex problem many retailers face when trying to sell SIM only products, as Ashley Bailey, CEO and founder of CTech, explains: “People who want to switch from one mobile network to another, so they can take advantage of better value SIM only price plans, need to prove their identity and pass a credit check before they can be accepted as customers. It’s also an important part of preventing fraud and criminal activity.

“However, this verification process creates a pinch point in the customer journey because retailers either struggle to collect the information needed to connect the customer, or, because of limitations in the technology, can’t carry out the right credit check. This means retailers risk losing a customer they’ve worked hard to attract.

“We’ve developed a software as a service (SaaS) solution to this problem that will integrate our cross operator application interfaces (APIs), with Experian’s credit checking functionality and a retailer’s e-commerce systems. This means retailers will not only be able to perform the right identity and credit check in real-time, but also activate the SIM, without having to have multiple API integrations with each of the different operators.”

Stuart Surridge, head of telco, utilities, public sector and healthcare at Experian said: “The Software-as-a-Service platform CTech provides to retailers in the UK and Europe is fully integrated with multiple mobile network APIs and will make a real difference to the number of customers retailers can connect. The functionality CTech has developed will allow retailers to credit check their customers instantly and then activate the SIM within their website, without disrupting the customer journey. We’re excited about this innovation because now Experian’s suite of products can be used to make the buying journey as smooth as possible and reduce fraud.”

Ashley adds: “The retail industry is in shock at the moment so the ability to add extra service options that improve margin, without huge technology investment is essential for survival. Now retailers have the option to sell SIM only products online and increase their margins, without the need to integrate with all the mobile networks. Our interface does all that for them and gives them the confidence that they can reduce their exposure to fraud and connect genuine customers quickly and easily.”

Argos will be among the first retailers to use the service.
