5G smartphone shipments in India set to cross 140m by 2025

CMR, a leading technology market research and advisory firm from India, has released the “CMR 4Ps of Mobile Handset Industry Report 2019” focusing on the hyper-competitive mobile handset industry ecosystem in India.

According to Prabhu Ram, Head – Industry Intelligence Group (IIG), CMR, “At the MWC Barcelona, many smartphone brands showed off their prototype, or 5G-ready devices. The initial 5G-enabled devices would be at a high price point, and in the uber-premium segment.”

CMR research points to 5G-enabled smartphone shipments in India potentially surpassing 140 million by 2025, on the back of a slow and gradual uptake. 5G smartphone shipments are expected to grow by around 250% during this period.

“At CMR, we anticipate 5G to attain scale from 2022 onwards. As on date, there are various critical themes at play, including the impending 5G spectrum allocation later this year as well as the necessary technical and infrastructure upgradation required for 5G,” added Prabhu.

As a bellwether for the mobile handset industry in India, the CMR 4Ps Report brings all the major smartphone industry participants in India on one page to deliberate on major themes that would define the industry in the years ahead. The report features bespoke intelligence and perspectives on the changing market and technology dynamics shaping Indian smartphone industry.
