Many enterprises who are on path to hybrid cloud face a daunting challenge when connecting to SAAS, PAAS or IAAS clouds. These challenges include speed, scale, providing performance guarantees, security postures and application performance assurance. The enterprises today want to connect to multiple clouds and at the same time be assured of performance guarantees for their workloads being accessed through various clouds. While the Internet provides ubiquitous connectivity to almost any place in the world, many medium to large enterprises want to utilize CSP managed networks to solve some of these challenges.

TCTS’s Virtual Cloud exchange (VCX) can help CSPs (Cloud Service providers) to solve this problem. TCTS VCX provides software driven solution to the problem that consist of a Life cycle service orchestration engine (LSO) , SDN Controller and an NFV infrastructure (NFVI) and can fully deliver a virtual cloud exchange utilizing commodity general purpose compute. VNFs are instantiated by the LSO that allows a given tenant to self-provision via a portal based on their intentions to connect to a given cloud provider.

One such example of the VNF is a virtual routing VNF. The distribution and granularity of application workloads is driving the need for seamless connectivity between various infrastructure topologies and service models. The virtual routing VNF in VCX platform would enable the cloud service providers to extend their managed network services to include cloud connectivity with Network Address Translation (NAT) from private to public address namespaces, including invoking optional various Virtualized Network Functions (VNFs) as a Service Function Chain (SFC).

The automation in the platform is driven by a life cycle service orchestrator (LSO) . The LSO can instantiate a set of VNFs for the given tenant automatically, on an already established NFV Infrastructure that is shared between all CSP subscribers. The VCX platform is built for hyper scale environments with Leaf spine fabric and DPDK for data plane optimization. It supports elasticity for on-demand service configurations by subscribers and location of the service functionality. Additional VNFs can be inserted on behalf of the tenants for various functions (ex: monitoring, security, WAN acceleration, etc).

Virtual Cloud Exchange (VCX) consists of a Lifecycle Service Orchestration (LSO) engine, an SDN controller, and Networks function virtualization infrastructure (NFVI .”The VCX platform was created to help Tier 2 and Tier 3 service providers connect with major public cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Google and anyone who has not created orchestration around their SDN platform” said  Vineet Anshuman, Global Product Manager for Nextgen Services at TCTS  . “VCX enables real-time creation of private connections to public clouds like Microsoft Azure and help with automation and virtualization of traditional connectivity service”.

“LSO enables service providers to transition from a silo-structured BSS/OSS approach towards flexible end-to-end orchestration that unleashes the value of SDN and NFV. Standardized LSO APIs are critical for enabling assured services orchestrated across automated, virtualized, and interconnected networks worldwide,” said Pascal Menezes ,CTO for MEF . “Managed services providers like TCTS,  leveraging the LSO Framework, can help CSPs jumpstart their SDN and automation journey.”
