Deutsche Telekom International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS), the international wholesale arm of Deutsche Telekom, recently reached another important milestone in the expansion of its global IP Exchange (IPX) network.

The ICSS IPX ports at AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) were upgraded to a redundant capacity of 2 times 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps). ICSS is now the first company to connect to the AMS-IX Inter-IPX platform with 100 GE ports. The decision to upgrade IPX connectivity at the AMS-IX peering platform was a natural step in ICSS’ commitment to offer industry-leading IPX capacity.

“Deutsche Telekom ICSS caters to the future roaming needs of its mobile operator partners and their subscribers. We are happy to provide a global, high-speed network with the full advantages of the latest, next-generation applications,” said Gergely Vadas, head of the Mobile World unit at ICSS.

“At AMS-IX, we traditionally see the exchange of roaming traffic increase over the summer period, as end-users enjoy their holidays abroad. With 4G widespread, and especially with the abolishment of roaming charges within the EU, we have seen a threefold increase in the amount of traffic exchanged over this European summer season,” said Henk Steenman, CTO of AMS-IX. “ICSS took the roaming experience to the next level with this upgrade, which is truly ground breaking. I am positive other carriers will follow this example.”

This enhancement follows Deutsche Telekom ICSS’ rollout of improved IPX capacities last May, another landmark in the IPX space. At that time ICSS was the first provider to activate multiple 100 Gbps transmission capacities for its customers in preparation of higher capacity demands.
