Reliance Jio Infocomm on Thursday withdrew its 'Summer Surprise' offer of three months of free services following an order from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

"Jio accepts this decision. Jio is in the process of fully complying with the regulator's advice, and will be withdrawing the three months' complimentary benefits of Jio Summer Surprise as soon as operationally feasible, over the next few days," said Jio parent Reliance Industries, in a statement.

The company did not explain why the TRAI has ordered it to pull its Summer Surprise.

Jio unveiled its latest special offer late last week.

It was pitched as a reward for customers who sign up to its Jio Prime Membership Programme, under which they pay a 99 rupee (€.140) enrolment fee, plus INR303 per month thereafter. To be eligible for the Summer Surprise, Jio Prime members had to make their first INR303 payment by 15 April.

All customers who signed up to the Summer Surprise prior to its withdrawal will remain eligible for it, Jio said.

These customers will continue to receive free voice, messaging and data services until July.
