The question of how we can create a gigabit society will be explored by Anna Krzyanowska, Head of Unit Broadband at the European Commission during Gigabit Access – a two-day conference dedicated to enhancing connectivity across Europe.

Encompassing the enhancement of legacy copper networks and the opportunities provided by other next-generation access technologies, primarily fibre, Gigabit Access will take place at the Le Plaza hotel, in Brussels, on Tuesday, April 4 and Wednesday, April 5.

The conference will also feature leading suppliers of the technologies needed to create a gigabit society, including Nokia, UTEL, Calix, FiberPlanIT and InCoax.

“Gigabit Access has grown in popularity among operators and vendors year-on-year and we expect this year’s event to be no different,” said Rob Chambers, Managing Director at Total Telecom. “The incorporation of next-generation technologies into the event makes it one not to be missed, with more than 200 senior and strategic executives due to attend.”

Highlights of this year’s conference include a CxO panel on day 1, featuring Geert Standaert, CTO at Proximus; Alexandre Fonseca, CTO at Portugal Telecom and Executive Manager at ALTICE Labs; Claude Strasser, CEO at POST Luxembourg; and Peter Bell, Fibre CIO at Openreach. This session will explore the key questions operators are facing when upgrading access networks including how the targets set out in the European Telecoms Code have impacted strategy.

One day 2, a keynote panel on fixed-wireless will take place, featuring Steve Haines, Group Managing Director at BT Group; Konstantinos Chalkiotis, Vice President Mobile Access at Deutsche Telekom; and Frank Hellemink, CTO at Vodafone Kabel Deutschland.
