M1 Limited (M1) has selected CCS’ Metnet backhaul system to meet the high mobile data demand at the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix. Metnet – the world's only self-organising microwave backhaul system – is being implemented to support a small cell network aimed at serving the peak demand around the popular Formula 1 night race, which is being held from 16th – 18th September at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore.

The full system is now live following extensive testing in the M1 labs with its core network and the small cells. CCS’ Metnet is the world’s only self-organising (SON) solution for wireless backhaul, supporting small cell, WiFi, CCTV, smart city and enterprise access applications. The CCS Metnet system is particularly suited to dense urban cities, where additional capacity is required and regional authorities are sensitive to aesthetics and equipment footprint.

M1 provides mobile and fixed services to over 2 million customers in Singapore. Commenting on the deployment, Mr Patrick Scodeller, Chief Operating Officer, M1, said: “M1 is committed to delivering the best experience to customers attending the F1, where demand for mobile data is expected to be extremely high. The powerful combination of M1’s small cell network and CCS’ industry-leading Metnet system will enable our customers can share the exhilaration of their F1 experience through social media on M1’s advanced 4G+ network.”

Steve Greaves, founder and CEO of CCS, added: “Our Metnet system has been specifically designed to enable network performance excellence in high-traffic hotspots, and hotspots don’t have more peak demand than at this exciting Formula 1 night race. The combination of our solution with this small cell roll-out will deliver faster download and upload speeds, and a superb mobile experience for M1’s customers. Metnet’s self-organising capability is the key to supporting the densification of small cell networks, and to enabling the evolution to 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT), and we look forward to extending our relationship to support M1’s roll-out of its ubiquitous on-demand, high-performance 5G service nationwide.”

CCS Metnet is a unique multipoint-to-multipoint (MPtMP) solution for small cells, WiFi, CCTV, smart city, enterprise access and fibre extension applications. Metnet is quick to deploy, easy to scale, and offers high capacity and low latency coupled with high availability and resilience, robust synchronisation and lowest total cost of ownership.
