iPass has announced that AlwaysOn, the largest Wi-Fi provider in South Africa, will be using the iPass SmartConnect Software Development Kit (SDK) to offer customers free access to 44 million Wi-Fi hotspots, located in airports, airplanes, hotels and other public areas worldwide.
AlwaysOn is a subsidiary of Dimension Data and owns more than 2,500 hotspots across South Africa, which are already part of the iPass network. Using the iPass SDK, AlwaysOn is building a new branded application that will provide its customers with simple and secure global Wi-Fi access. By adding the iPass network to its domestic Wi-Fi offering, AlwaysOn will provide greater value to its subscribers and further differentiate itself in a competitive communications market.
“Our deeper partnership with AlwaysOn is a great example of how our SDK can help service providers build more engaging applications and offer greater value-add to their customers,” said Mato Petrusic, vice president EMEA & APAC at iPass. “Service providers ultimately gain competitive advantage by adding the iPass network to their existing offerings, transforming local Wi-Fi into global Wi-Fi.”
“The iPass SDK will enable us to take our customer offering to the next level, allowing our subscribers to get connected at millions of locations worldwide using a customer-optimized app,” said Hayden Lamberti, managing director of AlwaysOn. “Our customers will now receive unlimited Wi-Fi wherever they are in the world, make payments for service and check their account status using the same AlwaysOn global Wi-Fi App.”
