Comcast Business announced that it extended its advanced network into the city of Manvel, providing businesses in the fields of manufacturing, distribution, logistics and others, with access to a comprehensive portfolio of advanced communications services to help improve productivity and scale their operations.

Located just south of Houston in Brazoria County, Manvel has seen its population double over the past 13 years. The expansion covers an area that reaches from West of Highway 288 to County Road 99 (Pearland Sites Road) and includes a variety of businesses including restaurants, retail storefronts, day care centers, pharmacies, and a library. In addition to the expansion to the business district of Manvel, Comcast Business is also investing in expanding its fiber network to the Pomona, Sterling Lakes and Meridiana residential neighborhoods.

This recently completed investment of close to $400,000 means more than 140 additional local businesses now have access to bandwidth capacity of up to 10 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps) and services specifically designed to help companies of all sizes take advantage of the latest available technology and affordable, competitive choice.

“The growth in Manvel over the past 10 years made it stand out as a highly desirable location for investment by Comcast Business. As we look to further develop high-capacity network infrastructure in the Houston area, it’s important that we identify cities like Manvel which show not only a history of growth but potential for additional business expansion,” said John Phillips, vice president of Comcast Business, Houston Region. “Extending network services to the city of Manvel is another example of Comcast’s commitment to bringing businesses more options for high-capacity network service, increasing the foundation for economic development in the area.”

“We welcome Comcast Business to the city of Manvel,” said Johanna McWilliams, president and CEO of the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce. “As our city continues to grow, so too will the demand for access to high-performance networks – it’s a must-have for businesses across all industries. By offering this technology, we will attract more organizations and help the local economy continue to grow.”

Comcast Business serves schools, businesses, hospitals, and other organizations that require large amounts of bandwidth, are looking to link multiple locations or branch locations, or that plan to connect their offices to a third-party data center. Services offered include:

- Ethernet Private Line: point-to-point connectivity between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications.

- Ethernet Virtual Private Line: point-to-multipoint connection to enable customers to tailor bandwidth, performance characteristics, and cost.

- Ethernet Network Service: multipoint-to-multipoint connectivity to connect organizations with high-bandwidth requirements and multiple locations across Comcast’s network.

- Ethernet Dedicated Internet: continuous, high-bandwidth connectivity between customers’ LANs and the public Internet.

Nationally, Comcast Business’s Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 140,000 miles. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by strict service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers. Comcast was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first service provider to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).
