World Telecom Labs (WTL) today announced that Brazilian operator Lig16 has chosen its award-winning VoIP technology to help meet increasing demand for reliable voice services.

Lig16, which is part of Brazil’s Viacom Group and licensed to provide voice connectivity in Northern Brazil, has experienced huge demand from businesses and homes looking to move their voice service away from incumbent operators. Lig16 has chosen to use VoIP to meet this demand as it is a very cost-efficient and effective way to increase voice capacity on Brazil’s heavily trafficked networks.

WTL’s secure, high reliability VoIP switching and award-winning voice compression technologies maximise capacity and ensure high quality calls for Lig16’s customers.

Lig16 has deployed WTL’s SoIP (SS7 to IP gateway) software in the cloud using the virtualized model. This provides greater flexibility for Lig16, minimising CAPEX investment and avoiding costly local import duties on IT hardware. In addition, as a fully virtualized solution running on VMWare, WTL also helps Lig16 to begin its migration towards NFV-enabled networks.

WTL’s SoIP software is also available as a service (SaaS).

WTL’s SoIP and VoIP switches have been deployed by operators throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas that need to cost-effectively increase network capacity and throughput - and reduce traffic on congested inter-city links. WTL has consistently won awards for its high levels of innovation.

Leigh Smith, MD of WTL, said “Operators around the world are now looking to VoIP as a cost-effective way of increasing voice capacity and improving service reliability. Being able to deliver our products as fully virtualised solutions provides our customers with greater flexibility. We have carved a real niche for ourselves as an innovative and award-winning company able to adapt our delivery mechanisms to suit our customers.”
