As of today, all mobile calls and texts between the U.S. and 15 countries are free using flyp. This mobile application and proprietary communications technology adds U.S. numbers to foreign mobile phones. This turns all flyp communications into local calls, which are covered by the user’s current service plan. flyp works over cellular channels, and does not incur data charges. flyp numbers can make calls to and receive calls from any U.S. landline or mobile number.
Countries include the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland, as well as the USA. Canada will be included the week of November 16, with an additional 20 countries available for flyp calling before the end of 2015.
“Today, we are trying to say goodbye to international longdistance as we know it,” said flyp CEO Peter Rinfret. “The telecommunications industry is long overdue for disruption. There is no reason why people are paying the rates they are for longdistance, especially here in the U.S.
“We want to finish the job that Skype started and never completed in terms of shaking up how to leverage technology to easily, affordably, and reliably communicate on a global scale.”
Unlike Skype or similar mobile calling apps, flyp is not a VoIP solution, nor does it require both parties to have the app. Simply dial and talk or text wherever you have a cellular connection and enjoy cellular sound quality; no pre-paid cards, no special SIMs.
flyp launched in the U.S. in spring 2015, enabling domestic users to streamline their social, professional, and private mobile lives by allowing multiple numbers to be added to one smartphone. International calling is the latest in a continuing line of innovations that continue to disrupt the mobile communications industry.
For a limited time, users can get one line for free, and add up to four additional lines through subscription plans that vary based on country of use. Most calls are free but, depending on location and carrier plan, some international carrier rates may apply for flyp voice calling. flyp offers U.S. phone numbers with nearly every area code, and has plans to offer foreign phone numbers in early 2016.
About flyp: flyp allows users to operate multiple U.S. phone numbers through a single smartphone app. The flyp platform is an end-to-end solution that connects to innovative deployments in the telecommunications environment. By allowing users to choose a phone number from any U.S. area code, flyp makes free international long-distance calling and texting to any U.S. or flyp phone number a reality. flyp is available for Android and iOS and is free to download.
