Comcast Business announced an extension of its advanced fiber-based network in San Ramon, Calif. Specifically intended for small businesses and organizations requiring more bandwidth capacity, these services are designed to improve productivity and enhance business performance.

Comcast Business installed more than one and a half miles of fiber, both underground and aerial, to the business community on the west side of Interstate 680, north of Deerwood Road. The high-performance network will provide the businesses with Ethernet capacity up to 10 Gbps, which is critical for the site’s data intensive businesses. The expansion comes as a result of a more than $250,000 investment from Comcast and allows the business community, home to more than 167 businesses, to receive fiber-based Internet for the first time, as well as reliable IP-based voice services.

“As a retail design company we are constantly on the Internet checking emails, downloading pictures and large architectural files and we need more speed than competitors can offer,” said Daisy Neske, Tile Designer at Coliseum Tile. “Additionally, in order to efficiently assist multiple customers at the same time, we have employees using iPads and cell phones, sharing information on our wireless connection. Previously, this slowed down our speeds and made it difficult to meet customer requests. Not only will the increased speeds allow us to better serve our customers, they’ll allow us to be more productive, eliminating time spent waiting for large files to transfer.”

“When exploring new office locations, access to high-speed broadband is a top consideration for prospective tenants,” said Bill Clarkson, Mayor of San Ramon. “Comcast’s investment in the San Ramon community ensures we are adequately prepared to both welcome new companies to the area, as well as support the continued growth of our local businesses.”

“With access to high-speed Internet, local companies are able to achieve their full potential,” said Ted Girdner, Vice President of Comcast Business for California. “This expansion enables businesses in San Ramon to grow and expand, supporting new job creation and bolstering economic opportunities.”

All of Comcast Business’ services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 140,000 miles and features a 100 Gbps backbone. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by strict service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers. Comcast Business was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first service provider to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).

Comcast Business recently received four Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Ethernet Excellence Awards, including the prestigious Best Service of the Year for North America.
