MTN Irancell unveils five new projects, products

MTN Irancell launched and unveiled its five new projects and products in the presence of MICT Minister, coincided with Government Week. According to MTN Irancell Public Relations, during this event, the pilot launch of TDDLTE, Frequency Aggregation and Fixed LTE Frequency Aggregation was announced and also the high-tech system of M2M, the first public Wi-Fi network of the country and MTN Irancell's 6000th MBB site were launched and operated. Throughout this event, Alireza Ghalambor Dezfouli, MTN Irancell Chief Executive Officer, reviewed a brief history of LTE-TDD services and said: "In 2010, Ericsson and Reliance Industries carried out the first field surveys in India through which they could achieve the 80 Mb/s speed. Also in 2011, China Mobile in cooperation with Huawei pilot launched the LTE-TDD service in six cities of China." He went on to say: "This service was launched as a 4G service by Soft Bank in 2012 in Japan and in 2013 in USA. Moreover, the first commercial LTE-TDD in Middle East and East Africa was launched in 2014 and its first network in Iran is being launched in 2015." According to him, last year MTN Irancell successfully signed the Upgrade License Agreement to 3G and 4G mobile network and pilot launched 3G network coincidently with Government Week; then on 25 August 2015 it launched its 3G network commercially and officially upon obtaining CRA approval. It is also noteworthy that 4G service was launched for the first time in the country shortly after the launch of 3G network. Talking about MTN Irancell 3G coverage…

According to MTN Irancell Public Relations, during this event, the pilot launch of TDDLTE, Frequency Aggregation and Fixed LTE Frequency Aggregation was announced and also the high-tech system of M2M, the first public Wi-Fi network of the country and MTN Irancell's 6000th MBB site were launched and operated.

Throughout this event, Alireza Ghalambor Dezfouli, MTN Irancell Chief Executive Officer, reviewed a brief history of LTE-TDD services and said: "In 2010, Ericsson and Reliance Industries carried out the first field surveys in India through which they could achieve the 80 Mb/s speed. Also in 2011, China Mobile in cooperation with Huawei pilot launched the LTE-TDD service in six cities of China."

He went on to say: "This service was launched as a 4G service by Soft Bank in 2012 in Japan and in 2013 in USA. Moreover, the first commercial LTE-TDD in Middle East and East Africa was launched in 2014 and its first network in Iran is being launched in 2015."

Talking about MTN Irancell 3G coverage, he said: "For the time being, more than 418 cities and villages and 56 main roads of all the 31 provinces of the country are covered by 3G network, and more than 90 cities are under the coverage of 4G service."

He declared: "Through launching MBB, various services were offered in different aspects of digital life, examples of which can be MMS Contents Cultural Portal, Applications Portal, Games Portal, m-Health, m-Learning, Ketabkhan and mobile Voice/Video."

According to him, currently there are 199 thousand 2G BTS sites which cover 45 million subscribers, 2,355 cities and villages, 85.7% of the population and 30,750 kilometers of the roads.

Dezfouli also reiterated: "MTN Irancell 3G network has 4,250 sites, 12.5 million subscribers, 427 cities and villages, coverage of 35.8% of the population and 180 TB of daily data traffic."

He also provided the statistics on MTN Irancell 4G network, saying that it has 1,750 sites, 1 million USIM Cards, coverage of 82 cities and 11.6% of the population and 20 TB of daily data traffic.

Finally, MTN Irancell CEO talked about broadband network mentioning that it has 7000 fixed and mobile broadband sites, 13 million subscribers, coverage of 427 cities and villages and 23 million mobile smart phones and 300 TB of daily data traffic.

7.2 Billion Mobile Subscribers across the World

Dezfouli spoke about global data trend and said: "50 billion devices are going to be connected to each other through wireless system while for the time being 7.2 billion individuals are connected to each other through mobile lines and 1 billion houses through fixed lines."

He went on to say: "In every 24 hours, US$ 2.7 billion transactions are conducted through e-commerce and 700 thousand new users are joining the Internet users. Moreover, 14.4 billion searches are made through Google search engine, 197 billion emails are sent across the world, 2.7 billion photos are shared and 328 million applications are downloaded."

According to MTN Irancell CEO, currently there are 2.9 billion MBB subscribers, 1.3 billion smart phones have been made available in the market in 2014 and number of Instagram and Whatsapp users has increased to 300 million 800 million individuals respectively.

322 4G Networks in 133 Countries across the world

Dezfouli explained that there are 322 4G networks with 635 million subscribers in 133 countries across the world. He added: "There are 603 3G networks with 1.9 billion subscribers in 216 countries across the world."

Regarding the development of these networks in Middle East and East Africa he said: "There are 970 million subscribers in these regions and 210 million are 4G subscribers. Mobile data traffic has increased 11 times and monthly data usage is 5 Gb per smart phone."

Effect of MBB Development on Employment and Economic Growth

Referring to the 2012 World Bank report he noted: "Each 10% increase in the MBB penetration rate will result in 1.38% growth in the GDP. In 2013 IAE reported that in the United States MBB development will result in more than USD 1 trillion increase in GNP in 2017 and over 1 million job opportunities will be created as the result of MBB development in this country.

He further added: According to the 2013 ITIF report, each 1% increase in the MBB penetration rate will increase the employment rate by 0.2% and according to Analysis Mason, the same increase in the MBB penetration rate will result in 0.13% increase in the productive efficiency.

According to Criterion Economics, the increase in the MBB penetration rate in the United States resulted in USD 300 billion increase in economic efficiency in 2007 which is equal to 22% of total economic efficiency. Referring to ITU report, Dezfouli stated that using MBB Internet can increase the amount of exports from manufacturing companies by 6% and sales of services companies by 10%.

31% Increase in the Number of Smart Phones in MTN Irancell Network

Dezfouli announced that there is a 31% increase in the number of smart phones in MTN Irancell 3G network and said: "We have also witnessed 3.2% increase in the number of 4G handsets and in total there are 23 million active smart phones in MTN Irancell network."

He also indicated that the number of mobile data subscribers has increased by 80% and there are 13 million MBB users and 22.5 million mobile data subscribers in MTN Irancell mobile network.

MTN Irancell CEO further explained that mobile data usage is 3.5 times more per users. He stated: "Daily mobile data usage is 6 times more and 85% of the total data usage in MTN Irancell network belongs to MBB.

The speed of 4G data usage is 9 times more than 3G and 100 times more than 2G. Regarding the speed of 3G data usage it is 11 times more than 2G."

Change Drivers of MBB Development

Dezfouli mentioned that change drivers of MBB development include creating constructive connection among different cultures, easy access to services, fast information flow, improved efficiency of businesses, virtual experiences, innovation in the market, social synergy, different tastes in the society and full development.

He noted that "Gisheh", "Neshan", "Ketabkhan", "Padidar", "Dana", "Bazik", "Rhythm" and "Zoom" are among the most important applications provided in MTN Irancell MBB network.

He further added that MTN Irancell organizational contents and services include LBS, USSD Interactive System, Corporate SMS System, Corporate Unified Communications Services, Online Business Trip System and VPN.

MTN Irancell possesses the most widespread international roaming network in Iran

He also explained about MTN Irancell international roaming network: MTN Irancell has roaming contract with 421 operators for postpaid subscribers and with 158 operators for prepaid subscribers. MTN Irancell is the only operator in Iran that provides data roaming with 315 operators around the world. It is possible to use USSD codes and recharge cards in all roaming destination countries.

Dezfouli also reiterated: It is now possible to use MTN Irancell SIM Cards during international flights and voyages via 21 airlines and shipping lines.

Referring to MTN Irancell international roaming network as the broadest network in Iran, CEO said: Roaming tariffs have been reduced in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Turkey, UAE, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Qatar, Germany, Sweden, and South Africa.

He went on to say: Using MTN Irancell roaming network, the tariffs will be reduced by 40% for internal voice calls in the host country, by 80% for voice calls to Iran, by 50% for receiving calls, by 50% for sending SMS, and by 98% for mobile data.

Stating that MTN Irancell customer service center is the largest one in the Middle East with 533 full time experts providing 24/7 services, Mr. Dezfouli further said: IVR, VIP call center for business customers with various communication channels including voice call, "My Irancell" application, social networks, and email are also made available for the customers.

Referring to the transformation from physical to electronic sales in MTN Irancell sale and distribution network, he stated: During the last year, MTN Irancell online sales network has been expanded by 31% and e-charge has increased by 44% in terms of sales volume.

Iranian Government Earned IRR 206,910[YA1] Billion from MTN Irancell Projects

MTN Irancell CEO announced that during last 9 years, Iranian government has earned IRR 206,910 billion from MTN Irancell projects. He further added: IRR 140,554 billion of the said revenue has been paid directly to the government in the last 9 years.

License fee for 2G, 3G and WiMAX, revenue sharing, numbering, Universal Service Obligation, regulation fee, frequency fee, interconnection charges, income tax and duties, withholding tax, customs and duties, transmission links, utility and energy costs, and the income made by state-run telecommunication companies constitute MTN Irancell direct payments to government.

Minister of Information and Communications Technology:

MTN Irancell should play an active role in regional mobile services market

Iranian ICT Minister, Dr. Mahmoud Vaezi encouraged MTN Irancell to play an active role in the regional mobile services market and avoid restricting its services to the Iranian markets.

According to MTN Irancell Public Relations, in the ceremony held this morning for official launch of five MTN Irancell projects and products in Government Week, Dr. Vaezi said: MTN Irancell may play an active role in the significant activities of the region through its foreign partner.

He stated that: We expect MTN Irancell to extend its services to international markets.

Expressing his satisfaction with MTN Irancell performance and its interaction with ICT Ministry and various sectors, Dr. Vaezi said: We are satisfied with your performance and will support you to extend your services to the markets abroad.

According to ICT Minister, MTN Irancell and its foreign partner (MTN) have constructive cooperation and so ICT Ministry guarantees MTN's foreign investments in Iran.

ICT Minister stated that people experienced a completion when Irancell entered the market. He continued to say: Monopoly is undesirable and prevents a nation from growth and development.

According to him, MTN Irancell has proved that competition leads to success. He further added: Before starting my work in ICT Ministry, I was interested to see how a newly established company competes with a state-run experienced company

He went on to say that: MTN Irancell has demonstrated innovation not only in advertising, but also in technical, business, commercial, and marketing areas.

Pointing out to the official launch of the first public Wi-Fi network in Iran, he said: In the first phase this network was piloted in Tochal. I do believe that the whole country can use MTN Irancell services.

He reiterated: The sooner a country welcomes broadband technology, the more success it achieves. If we wait for broadband technology to come to Iran, people may not be able to benefit from its advantages. So, we have to welcome new technologies. Today is the age of technology and those countries equipped with new technologies like the ones we are using, can have a share in the Iranian market.

He went on to say: People mistakenly think that high speed Internet can be only used for pastime and entertainment. It may be used for entertainment, however, what makes ICT area valuable for the government is that it can drive and empower growth in economy, culture, politics, and security.

According to Dr. Vaezi, the only way to develop our economy is to make use of such technologies as the basic for everything we do.
