Iranian govt earned IRR206.9bn from MTN Irancell - CEO

MTN Irancell CEO announced that the revenue of government earned from MTN Irancell projects during the past 9 years was IRR 206,910 billion and said: "IRR 140,554 billion has been directly paid to the government by MTN Irancell during the past 9 years." According to MTN Irancell Public Relations, throughout a press conference held on the occasion of first anniversary of MTN Irancell 3G and 4G launch, Mr. Alireza Ghalambor Dezfouli mentioned examples of MTN Irancell's payments to the government including 2G, 3G and WiMAX License fee, revenue sharing, numbering, Universal Service Obligation (USO), regulation fee, GSM band frequency fee, microwave frequency fee, interconnection charges, customs and duties, income tax, withholding tax, transmission links, utility and energy costs, and the income made by governmental telecommunications companies. Allocation of the Prefix 0903 to MTN Irancell Dezfouli also announced that a new range with the prefix 0903 is allocated to MTN Irancell by CRA and said: "This prefix is going to enter the market gradually." Statistics on MTN Irancell Broadband Network According to him, last year MTN Irancell successfully signed the Upgrade License Agreement to 3G and 4G mobile network and launched the pilot phase of 3G network coincidently with Government Week; then on 25 August 2015 it launched its 3G network commercially and officially upon obtaining CRA approval. It is also noteworthy that 4G service was launched for the first time in the country shortly after the launch of 3G network…

Allocation of the Prefix 0903 to MTN Irancell

Dezfouli also announced that a new range with the prefix 0903 is allocated to MTN Irancell by CRA and said: "This prefix is going to enter the market gradually."

Statistics on MTN Irancell Broadband Network

According to him, last year MTN Irancell successfully signed the Upgrade License Agreement to 3G and 4G mobile network and launched the pilot phase of 3G network coincidently with Government Week; then on 25 August 2015 it launched its 3G network commercially and officially upon obtaining CRA approval. It is also noteworthy that 4G service was launched for the first time in the country shortly after the launch of 3G network.

Talking about MTN Irancell 3G services coverage, he said: "For the time being, more than 427 cities and villages and 56 main roads of all the 31 provinces of the country are covered by 3G network, and more than 82 cities are under the coverage of 4G service."

According to him, currently there are 19 thousand 2G BTS sites which cover 45 million subscribers, 2,355 cities and villages, 85.7% of the population and 30,750 kilometers of the roads.

Dezfouli also reiterated: "MTN Irancell 3G network has 4,250 sites, 12.5 million subscribers, 427 cities and villages, coverage of 35.8% of the population and 180 TB of daily data traffic."

He also provided the statistics on MTN Irancell 4G network, saying that it has 1,750 sites, 1 million USIM Cards, coverage of 82 cities and 11.6% of the population and 20 TB of daily data traffic.

Finally, MTN Irancell CEO talked about broadband network mentioning that it has 7000 fixed and mobile broadband sites, 13 million subscribers, coverage of 427 cities and villages and 23 mobile smart phones and 300 TB of daily data traffic.

Pilot Launch of MTN Irancell TD-LTE Network

Mentioning that MTN Irancell obtained the TD-LTE License on 23 August 2015 and launched its pilot phase on 24 August 2015, Dezfouli said: "In 2010, Ericsson and Reliance Industries carried out the first field surveys in India through which they could achieve the 80 Mb/s speed. Also in 2011, China Mobile in cooperation with Huawei pilot launched the LTE-TDD service in six cities of China."

He went on to say: "This service was launched as a 4G service by Soft Bank in 2012 in Japan and in 2013 in USA. Moreover, the first commercial LTE-TDD in Middle East and East Africa was launched in 2014 and its first network in Iran is launched by MTN Irancell in 2015."

He also announced launch of the first public Wi-Fi network in the country and operation of the 6000th MTN Irancell 3G/4G site on the previous day in the presence of MICT Minister.

7.2 Billion Mobile Connections across the World

Dezfouli spoke about global data trend and said: "50 billion devices are going to be connected to each other through wireless system while for the time being 7.2 billion individuals are connected to each other through mobile lines and 1 billion houses through fixed lines."

He also added: "In every 24 hours, US$ 2.7 billion transactions are conducted through e-commerce and 700 thousand new users are joining the Internet. Moreover, 14.4 billion searches are made through Google search engine, 197 billion emails are sent across the world, 2.7 billion photos are shared and 328 million applications are downloaded."

LTE Development Trend across the World

Regarding the development trend of LTE across the world, MTN Irancell CEO said: "Japanese NTT DOCOMO proposed LTE as an international standard in radio communications in 2004. However, it was in 2007 that the Sweden-based Ericsson, in collaboration with NTT DOCOMO, launched the pilot phase of LTE with the speed rates of 144 Mb/s and 200 Mb/s, respectively."

He further added: "One year later, the radio communications department of the ITU defined standard requirements of 4G systems, and then in 2009 Nokia Siemens (NSN) and LG cooperated with each other to test the first complete End-to-End performance of LTE."

According to him, the first LTE network available to the public was in the Stockholm and Oslo by the leading network operators TeliaSonera and Ericsson in 2009. Also, the first GPRS service (2G mobile Internet) had been commercially launched by the said operator in 2000.

He reiterated: "In 2010, Verizon Wireless launched the first 4G/LTE wireless services in 38 cities of the USA where the download speed was 5-12 Mb/s. SK Telecom and +LGU launched the first LTE of South Korea in 2011 in Seoul. The first LTE of Middle East was launched in 2012 by Etisalat of United Arab Emirates. Orange launched the first LTE network in France in 2013 and now MTN Irancell launches the first LTE of Iran in 2014.

11-Times Increase in Global Mobile Data Traffic

Regarding the prediction of global mobile data development trend, he said: The aggregate growth of mobile data in the Middle East and Africa will reach to 70% by 2018. Some 10 million people will be in touch with each other through mobile technologies (including Machine to Machine (M2M)), mobile data traffic will increase 11 times by 2018 and the forecast of the mobile data monthly traffic will reach 15 Exabyte by 2018.

According to MTN Irancell CEO, currently there are 2.9 billion MBB subscribers, 1.3 billion smart phones have been made available in the market in 2014 and number of Instagram and WhatsApp users has increased to 300 million 800 million individuals respectively.

Then Dezfouli announced the presence of 322 4G networks in 133 countries around the world with 635 million subscribers and stated: "The number of 3G networks around the world has reached 306 in 216 countries with 1.9 billion subscribers."

He also added: "It has been predicted that in 2020 the number of mobile phone subscribers in the Middle East and Africa would climb to 970 million, out of which 210 million would be 4G mobile phone subscribers. Moreover, mobile data traffic will increase 14 times and the monthly data usage will grow to 5 GB per each smart phone."

1.38% growth of GDP as per 10% increase in the MBB penetration rate

Referring to the 2012 World Bank report Dezfouli noted: "Each 10% increase in the MBB penetration rate will result in 1.38% growth in the GDP. In 2013 IAE reported that in the United States MBB development will result in more than USD 1 trillion increase in GNP in 2017 and over 1 million job opportunities will be created as the result of MBB development in this country.

He further added: According to the 2013 ITIF report, each 1% increase in the MBB penetration rate will increase the employment rate by 0.2% and based on IAE report over 1 million new jobs will be created by 2017 in the US thanks to the development of MBB.

According to Analysis Mason, 1% increase in the MBB penetration rate will result in 0.13% increase in the productive efficiency.

Criterion Economics report shows that the increase in the MBB penetration rate in the United States resulted in USD 300 billion increase in economic efficiency in 2007 which is equal to 22% of total economic efficiency. Referring to ITU report, Dezfouli stated that using MBB Internet can increase the amount of exports from manufacturing companies by 6% and sales of services companies by 10%.

31% Increase in the Number of Smart Phones in MTN Irancell 3G Network

Dezfouli announced that there is a 31% increase in the number of smart phones in MTN Irancell 3G network and said: "We have also witnessed 3.2% increase in the number of 4G handsets and in total there are 23 million active smart phones in MTN Irancell network."

He also indicated that the number of mobile data subscribers has increased by 80% and there are 13 million MBB users and 22.5 million mobile data subscribers in MTN Irancell mobile network.

MTN Irancell CEO further explained that mobile data usage is 3.5 times more per users. He stated: "Daily mobile data usage is 6 times more and 85% of the total data usage in MTN Irancell network belongs to MBB.

4G data usage is 9 times more than 3G and 100 times more than 2G. Regarding 3G data usage it is 11 times more than 2G."

He noted that "Gisheh", "Neshan", "Ketabkhan", "Padidar", "Dana", "Bazik", "Rhythm" and "Zoom" are among the most important applications provided in MTN Irancell MBB network.

He further added that MTN Irancell organizational contents and services include LBS, USSD Interactive System, Corporate SMS System, Corporate Unified Communications Services, Online Business Trip System and VPN.

MTN Irancell, the Most Widespread International Roaming Network in Iran

Dezfouli also explained about MTN Irancell international roaming network: "MTN Irancell has roaming contract with 421 operators for postpaid subscribers and with 158 operators for prepaid subscribers. MTN Irancell is the only operator in Iran that provides data roaming with 315 operators around the world. It is possible to use USSD codes and recharge cards in all roaming destination countries."

He further added: It is now possible to use MTN Irancell SIM Cards during international flights and voyages via 21 international airlines and shipping lines.

MTN Irancell CEO stated that the e-charge sales went up by 68.4% and direct top-up[LA1] sales increased by 40.8% out of the total amount of sales.

MTN Irancell IRR 1000 Billion Investment in M2M

MTN Irancell Business Solutions General Manager in this conference stated that MTN Irancell M2M project had been launched the previous day by ICT Minister and explained: In this project two or more devices are connected on the Internet or VPN through a wireless or wired platform. M2M technology is basically a telecommunication system mostly employed for monitoring purposes. It is used in all types of industries and related services and is considered as the basis for the Internet of Things (IoT).

He offered the predictions regarding the rapid development and expansion of M2M services in the world: "By 2020 about 50 billion devices will have been connected, over 500 mobile operators in 190 countries will have entered M2M market and 250 million smart cars will have been connected. "

He noted that MTN Irancell is planning to invest over IRR 1000 billion in M2M services. "Once the project is implemented many companies and organizations will be connected and various services will be provided through this technology. Besides, M2M plays a vital role in creating job opportunities and secure communication platforms as well as providing Mobile Government services" he said.

He further added: At present over 260,000 M2M SIM Cards are active in MTN Irancell network and over 200 organizations enjoy the provided services.
