ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, has announced its partnership with Jiangsu Telecom to trial its 4K super HD ITV LiveTV service. Since the successful trial, Jiangsu Telecom has become the first H.265 code-based end-to-end 4K LiveTV platform provider in the world.

ZTE’s 4K LiveTV solution covers IPTV (TV based IP network) system head-end, system middleware, CDN (content delivery network), and terminals. ZTE is the first vendor to use capabilities such as merging a CDN and integrating a IPTV (TV based IP network), OTT (over the top) and cache capabilities. In early 2015, ZTE, together with Jiangsu Telecom, jointly built its H.265-based 4K LiveTV system. This solution supports 4K LiveTV systems using RTS (real time streaming) and HLS (HTTP live streaming) protocols, whose service mode is flexible. This is the first global system with 4K business capability, which supports the combination of unicast and multicast, according to the information supplied by the network.

ZTE’s 4K LiveTV service realises a number of technical innovations, optimising multiple aspects such as content decoding, storage performance, and platform integration and reform. ZTE’s 4K LiveTV solution uses H.265, doubling the compression efficiency of H.264 through the advanced picture prediction mode and precise code architecture. ZTE also uses a super-integrated CDN that has the maximum density among products within the same category. A single device has the largest storage capacity of 240T, which can store 4K films up to a total viewing time of 26,000 hours. A single device possesses a service capacity of up to 56G, which can provide online services for an estimated 4,200 4K users simultaneously. Multiple upgrade modes assist the operator to analyse the connection of the 4K speed in the current IPTV system to save on CAPEX (capital expenditure).

ZTE’s 4K LiveTV service, based on ZTE’s “Eye Will” unified platform, provides its customers with end-to-end solutions, including media (service) sources, TV sets, PCs, and mobile phones, helping its customers realise a full multimedia service operation. The terminal user can, through their home or mobile internet network, view HD video programmes on multi-screen terminals, realising functions such as multi-control, remote control, and cross-screen operations. Earlier this year, ZTE’s Eye Will unified platform was successfully deployed in 60 commercial IPTV/OTT offices with more than 26 million active online subscribers. Its total system capacity has reached 35 million worldwide, and ZTE has deployed the world’s largest H.264 IPTV commercial project.
