ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, has launched its super HD 4K set-top box (STB) product B860A.

The announcement closely follows the launch of the Sichuan branch of China Telecom’s 4K super HD ITV service. China Telecom is the first telecom operator to provide end-to-end super HD 4K service, with ZTE collaborating with Sichuan Telecom on its development.

ZTE, a strategic collaboration partner of Sichuan Telecom, has been actively participating in the construction of the operator’s ITV system. In the recent bidding project of STBs, ZTE won 40 percent of the market share, ranking No.1 in the market. In 2012, Sichuan Telecom submitted its 012 All Optical Network (AON) development strategy. It has upgraded and deployed the 4K super HD video service, both leading the development of the ITV service and submitting its higher requirement for STBs to all equipment vendors.

ZTE is the first vendor to launch its advanced next generation super HD 4K smart STB and is ranked No. 1 in the world with IP STB market share. The super HD 4K STB B860A boasts high performance and uses the 64-byte system solution, Cortex-A9 architecture and 4-core CPU. The main frequency of its CPU reaches 2.0GHz, and the STB has an 8-core Mali-450 GPU. The STB uses the latest Android 4.4 operating system and supports the latest H.265 video code standard. It uses advanced technology to improve the relationship between the code stream, code quality, time delay and algorithm complexity so that the product is at the most optimised setting. In comparison to the video compression efficiency of the H.264, the H.265 can save half of the bandwidth, effectively helping the telecom operator to accelerate the development of the 4K super HD service. The STB has 4K (4096×2160) super high resolution, providing a significant visual difference between the 4K resolution and the ordinary HD.

The ZTE B860A STB includes the 2.4G/5H WiFi and Bluetooth functions, enabling end-users to avoid family cabling and significantly improving user experience. In addition, the B860A supports the 1080P HD visual communication so that the user can utilise point-to-point visual communication through terminals such as mobile phones, tablets, and STBs at home.
