iPass Inc., providing cost-effective Wi-Fi access around the world for enterprises, telecom service providers and other strategic partners, has announced it is providing Melita, a mobile carrier located in Malta, with access to its global Wi-Fi network. Through partnering with iPass, Melita is offering its melitaWIFI Travel service to existing and new Melita mobile prepaid or pay-monthly customers, providing them with access to 15 million Wi-Fi hotspots located in in airports, airplanes, hotels and public areas worldwide.
melitaWIFI Travel, which is an expansion of the operator’s already popular domestic Wi-Fi service, melitaWIFI, aims to make it as easy as possible for customers to access Wi-Fi while they are travelling abroad. The service also aims to help customers stay connected on their smartphone and tablet devices, without incurring the expensive roaming fees charged by other operators.
To access melitaWIFI Travel, customers simply download and install the melitaWIFI Travel application, which is available for Android, Windows Phone, iPhone and iPad. By entering their MyMelita username and password, which can be simple credentials chosen by the user, customers can then use the application to access any of the available hotspots available nearby. Every customer who signs up to melitaWIFI Travel is provided with simple instructions and a FAQ, to ensure that using the service is as easy and pain free as possible.
Ludolf Rasterhoff, COO at Melita said: “Living on an island in the Mediterranean means that many of our customers regularly travel to visit family, friends, shop or go to work. Giving our customers the unique experience of being able to access over 15 million Wi-Fi hotspots means they can stay connected and avoid worrying about expensive data roaming charges whilst abroad. Our customers can now travel and receive cost-effective and convenient Wi-Fi wherever they are. melitaWIFI Travel has also undoubtedly increased our competitive edge and other operators in Malta are taking note.”
“We are delighted to be working with Melita to provide its customers with Wi-Fi connectivity worldwide,” said Steve Livingston, Senior Vice President, iPass. “Staying connected in this day and age shouldn’t be complicated or expensive, especially when travelling. Melita’s service is a great example of how operators can use Wi-Fi to differentiate their customer offering in a competitive telecoms market.”
melitaWIFI Travel is free for customers until the end of September and flat rate bundles will be available after the free period for users who wish to continue using the service.
