Leading European service providers, vendors, test laboratories and analysts will be gathering together in Munich on March 25th next year to debate the latest development in broadband provision – gigabit speeds over copper.

Total Telecom’s Gigabit Copper has already attracted speakers from Europe, the Middle East and America, to start looking seriously at how technologies such as Bonding, Vectoring, VDSL and G.fast can help them to squeeze more life – and bandwidth – out of their existing copper infrastructure.

As well as purely the technologies, the event will cover topics including:-

• Standards and regulation
• What is the most appropriate copper technology for the customer demand?
• How fast can copper actually go?
• How copper can work effectively with fibre?
• Early trial case studies
• What is the business case and social benefit?

Service providers already taking part include BT, Swisscom and Eircom and major sponsors Sckipio and AdTran.

Oliver Johnson, CEO of Point Topic said

“Understanding what the capabilities of copper are, and can be, as well as the evolving demand for bandwidth, will be vital for all of us as we plan for the future. The Gigabit Copper event is perfectly timed and with a strong set of speakers and panellists it will be an important chance to catch up on the latest thinking and results as well as providing important input for decision making going forward.”

Early reaction to the announcement of the event has already been very positive.

Ondrej Maly, Member of the Council, Czech Telecommunications Council said

"New technologies extending the lifespan of copper infrastructure such as G.fast are important, as they help to achieve the target of 100% EU coverage with fast broadband. The Gigabit Copper Conference should provide an excellent opportunity to share experiences."

Managing Director of Total Telecom, Rob Chambers agreed by saying that “Life is far from over for copper, and apart from simply the speeds, the ability to link with fibre for final delivery could see copper play a significant role in the broadband sector now and the years to come.”

Gigabit Copper will be a one day conference with associated supplier showcase area, to be held in Munich, 25th March 2015.
