AT&T to enter Mexico with $2.5bn Iusacell buy

U.S. telco giant plans to create consistent customer experience between two countries; aims to close deal in Q1 2015.

AT&T is set to gain a foothold in Mexico's mobile market after agreeing to acquire Iusacell's mobile assets for $2.5 billion. Iusacell offers mobile services under the Iusacell and Unefón brands. It has 8.6 million customers and its network covers approximately 70% of Mexico's 120 million-strong population. AT&T said late on Friday it expects to complete its acquisition of the company in the first quarter of 2015.
