QuickPlay Media, the leading provider of cloud-based managed service solutions for the distribution of premium media to IP-connected devices, today announced plans to demonstrate its TV Everywhere applications over 4G LTE broadcast. Utilising QuickPlay’s modular OpenVideo platform, the Company’s TV Everywhere applications will enable global mobile operators using Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.’s (QTI) comprehensive LTE Broadcast solution to provide enhanced over-the-top (OTT) video experiences. The demonstration will take place at QTI’s 3G LTE Summit on September 10 in Hong Kong, and will showcase the ability to deliver secure streaming of Live Linear TV channels to mobile devices over LTE Broadcast technology, which allows up to four streams to be delivered simultaneously. QTI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

LTE Broadcast technology provides an opportunity for operators to enhance subscriber experiences by developing a customised viewing experience for large scale audiences. Based on Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS) standards, LTE Broadcast delivers the same stream of content to multiple users eliminating network capacity constraints, delivering higher quality video and reduced latency compared to a unicast delivery. The demo is supported by QTI’s LTE Broadcast solution for eMBMS, and includes the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 processor, broadcast middleware, multimedia services, and a proven interface for LTE Broadcast application development. The Snapdragon 800 processor is a product of QTI.

“With many operators now trialing with LTE Broadcast, commercialisation opportunities for this new technology appear to be growing every day. From QuickPlay’s perspective it is important to be at the forefront of this technological revolution, supporting customers in further leveraging LTE Broadcast,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO of QuickPlay Media. “As TV and video-on-demand (VoD) move to the cloud and become core to service offerings, LTE Broadcast will be pivotal to bringing a seamless viewing experience to mobile devices and eventually enable new services to the home.”

The TV Everywhere applications also includes a configurable, customisable client application, support for adaptive streaming, complete content protection with DRM solutions like Microsoft PlayReady, user entitlements, dynamic advertising, banner ad support, multi-language support and featured content.

The demonstration utilising QTI’s LTE Broadcast solution is a part of QuickPlay’s industry leading effort to support new devices, networks and features with its end-to-end managed service capabilities. QTI’s LTE Broadcast solution has been tested among major infrastructure vendors over the past three years, resulting in a superior level of interoperability and product maturity. In addition to its existing VoD and Media Transformation services, QuickPlay now manages over 580 live channels and 30,000,000 consumptions per month through its global network operations center in San Diego. With the launch of dynamic ad insertion capabilities in September, it is well positioned to deliver continued innovative enhancements and features to customers via its managed services capabilities.
