Mobilcom, Affinion unveil IDPROTECT partnership

Affinion International, the leading global provider of customer loyalty and engagement products, today announced a groundbreaking partnership with mobilcom-debitel, the biggest network-independent telecommunications provider in Germany. The partnership has seen the development of a bespoke IDPROTECT product, helping mobilcom-debitel customers stay safe online and reduce the risk of falling victim to identity theft.

Smartphone use is rapidly growing in Germany, with over 25 million residents accessing the internet at least once a day from a mobile device, and more than 50% of the population (35.4 million) expected to be using smartphones by the end of the year. mobilcom-debitel, whose customers are high users of networked devices and online services, are reacting to this explosion in use by helping its customers to protect their digital footprint.

IDPROTECT scans the web daily and alerts users to any of their personal and financial details appearing publicly online. Where information appears that the user does not believe should be available, the IDPROTECT team takes action to get it removed, taking away worry and hassle from the customer.

At the start of 2014, Germany’s Federal Office for Online Security declared identity theft to be “one of the greatest risks in the use of the internet” whilst warning that cyber criminals had hold of a list of 16 million email addresses and passwords.

The introduction of IDPROTECT is the latest innovative digital service mobilcom-debitel has made available to its customers. It follows the introduction of a ‘Gamepack’ option allowing users two free downloads of games per month and a SmartHome Security service allowing users to monitor their home’s alarms and security cameras remotely.

In the UK, ID fraud represents more than 50% of all reported fraud, with an astonishing 90% (over 43,000) of all identity frauds against plastic cards being attempted online.

The partnership with mobilcom-debitel further expands Affinion’s presence in the Telco sector, following recent agreements with Vodafone and Telefonica Movistar. Confirming the deal, Affinion International's Senior Vice President Northern Europe, Giles Desforges said: "As more of our lives are lived through our phones, mobile operators have the perfect opportunity to build closer relationships with their customers.
