Huawei backs England for World Cup

But telecoms operator executives disagree, with most plumping for Brazil and Germany.

"Since China is not in the World Cup, I will totally be rooting for England," Huawei's current CEO Guo Ping declared on Tuesday evening at the launch event for the vendor's UK Innovation Programme in London. Now, I know what you're thinking, but I can confirm that this was early in the evening and no one had been hitting the champagne too hard at that stage in proceedings. The remark was naturally well-received by the London crowd, the majority of whom – dare I say it? – are perhaps putting heart over head when it comes to the 2014 global football tournament that kicked off in Brazil on Thursday…
