EU OKs 3 Ireland's O2 takeover

Irish mobile operator agrees to provide capacity to MVNOs, sell spectrum and maintain network-sharing deal to allay competition concerns.

The European Commission on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to 3 Ireland's proposed takeover of local rival O2 on the proviso that 3 undertakes certain measures to protect competition in the market. The €850 million deal, agreed in June 2013, will reduce the number of mobile network operators in Ireland to three from four, which triggered competition concerns at the Commission…
