AT&T in 1-Gbps Internet talks with 21 metro areas

Telco to roll out high-speed fibre network in up to 100 U.S. cities as long as the investment case passes muster.

AT&T has drawn up a list of 21 metropolitan areas of the U.S. where it is considering rolling out its GigaPower fibre broadband network. The telco said it will consult with representatives in these markets to identify those with the most compelling business case. Factors such as existing network facilities, the level of pent-up demand, and local regulations and policies will all be considered when AT&T comes to make its decision.
