FTC warns Facebook, WhatsApp to respect users' privacy

U.S. regulator says failure to comply could constitute breach of social network's 2011 privacy policy settlement.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has warned Facebook and WhatsApp that they must deliver on their promise to respect the privacy of their users. Jessica Rich, director of the regulator's consumer protection bureau, sent a letter to Facebook's chief privacy officer Erin Egan, and WhatsApp's general counsel Anne Hoge, reminding them that they have told WhatsApp users that the company's privacy policy will remain unchanged following its $19 billion acquisition by Facebook…
