Tough times for Italy's telcos as market contracts; M&A could be on the cards, but there are no clear-cut takeover options.

The number of fixed and mobile lines in service in Italy has been falling steadily for the past couple of years and 2013 was no exception, according to new statistics from the country's regulator.
