Derby City Council has selected public sector network specialist, Updata Infrastructure Ltd (Updata), to provide a PSN-ready Wide Area Network (WAN) for the council’s corporate sites and managed services for 60 schools in Derby. The new infrastructure will deliver network cost savings of approximately 50 per cent, £450,000, over 3 years, and help the Council meet Central Government stipulations for district and unitary councils to adhere to PSN standards.
Derby City Council awarded Updata a 3 year contract in September 2013 for the provision of a virtual WAN to the Council’s 72 corporate sites, including libraries, museums, offices, care homes and leisure centres, which will meet the GSX Government Code of Connection (CoCo) compliance and security requirements.
Furthermore, Updata was chosen to host 60 schools’ learning management systems, providing the most advanced web hosting, web and email filtering technology and support, as part of the Council’s bid to improve provision for its schools in the region.
Miles Peters, Solutions Architect for Derby City Council, comments, “Updata has provided us with a high quality specification that is affordable, competitive and technically excellent. We needed to replace a complex legacy network that had slow and ageing technologies. Updata is the right fit for us, as we needed a partner that understood us and our market and Updata is both agile and flexible and will provide us with a network infrastructure that can grow with us. By unbundling the local exchanges, Updata’s technology can make better use of infrastructure already in place and ensure that we have the best solution available to us.”
Vic Baldorino, Co-Founder and Sales Director at Updata Infrastructure Ltd commented: “We are pleased that Derby City Council has chosen Updata to build a new network leveraging innovative technologies that will support their progressive vision. Updata has a demonstrable track record of commitment to the public sector market and we believe that our innovative and flexible approach is a great fit with the specific local requirements adopted by Derby. We look forward to working with them to realise their vision over the coming years.”
