Breakthrough year for enterprise small cells to fuel mobilisation of business in 2014

SpiderCloud Wireless, Inc., the leading provider of scalable small cell Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) systems, today announced it has seen a breakthrough year for industry collaboration to fix coverage and capacity problems for enterprise customers of all sizes. There is growing market momentum and demand from enterprises and a significant increase in mobile operator trials and commercial deployments. With new players entering the market and merger and acquisition activity, 2013 became a breakthrough year for enterprise small cells and systems.

Key industry milestones in 2013:

• Research conducted in the US, UK, Germany and Spain by YouGov, a market research firm, revealed that over 61 percent of IT decision makers from businesses in the US with over 250 employees said their business has had major issues with indoor coverage. In Germany this stood at 50 percent, in Spain it was 43 percent and in the UK it was 39 percent
• The commercial launch by Vodafone Netherlands of SpiderCloud Wireless’s Enterprise Radio Access Network (E-RAN) to offer enterprise customers reliable in-building coverage and capacity with a scalable and flexible small cell system, made it the world’s first mobile operator to offer a system that can deliver reliable and cost effective mobility services to medium and large enterprise customers
• The revenue opportunity for mobile operators – and cost savings potential for enterprises – were uncovered by ExactVentures in its report ‘The emergence of enterprise small cells’, which found that enterprise small cells are emerging as an ideal solution for addressing the problem of indoor coverage for many service providers and that enterprise small cell revenue will exceed $2 billion per annum by 2016
• SpiderCloud unveiled performance reliability of its E-RAN systems of 99.5 percent, making it suitable for most communications needs inside an enterprise
• The Small Cell Forum shared its “Enterprise Release 2” documents, highlighting the business case and market drivers for enterprise small cells
• SpiderCloud Wireless won four industry awards and picked up five further shortlistings as well as notable industry mentions for its enterprise small cell innovations:
- ‘Best LTE RAN product’ (LTE Awards, 2013)
- ‘Mobile Enterprise Interface Award’ for first scalable and multi-access 3G, Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE Small Cell System (Small Cell Forum Awards, 2013)
- ‘Non-residential (enterprise and public access small cell) design and innovation award’ (Small Cell Forum Awards, 2013)
- ‘Network Infrastructure – In-building Network Award’ for first scalable and multi-access 3G, Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE Small Cell System (CTIA Emerging Technology Awards, 2013)
- SpiderCloud’s Behrooz Parsay, SVP engineering and operations, was recognized as one of six small cell industry “movers and shakers” by Lightreading.com

Commenting on 2013 and 2014, SpiderCloud executives noted:
“For almost six years, we have worked hard to enable mobile operators with flexibility, ease of deployment and scalability, as well as reliability and performance for enterprise customers,” said Behrooz Parsay, SVP engineering and operations. “In 2013, we showed the entire industry that we deliver on these requirements.”

SpiderCloud’s small cell system consists of two elements – the SpiderCloud Radio Node (SCRN) and the SpiderCloud Services Node (SCSN). In an installation, the Radio Nodes are deployed inside the enterprise. These are then connected to the SpiderCloud Services Node, an on-premises small cell services element which is the central configuration and services enabler. The Services Node securely connects to a mobile operator’s core network, enabling the operator to deliver managed mobility services to its enterprise customers over the top of the coverage and capacity system.

In 2013, SpiderCloud announced an industry-first innovation by introducing an enterprise small cell, the SCRN-310, which can simultaneously offer 3G and LTE service, and is software-upgradeable to operate in two spectrum bands of LTE. SpiderCloud offers a portfolio of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) small cells as part of the scalable E-RAN system with transmit power options of 100-to-250 mW:
• SCRN-200: 3G Small Cell supporting 32 3G/HSPA+ channels
• SCRN-300: 3G/Wi-Fi Small Cell supporting 32 3G/HSPA+ channels and dual-band Wi-Fi
• SCRN-210: LTE Small Cell supporting 32 active users and 128 RRC_Connected users
• SCRN-310: Dual-band 3G & LTE Small Cell supporting 32 3G/HSPA+ channels, 32 active LTE users, and 128 RRC_Connected LTE Users
