Friday Review: Keepy-uppies

Industry debates whether Europe can regain its leadership in mobile as we head towards 5G.

"I wouldn't mind, but we invented this game," my dad frequently grumbles at the television, while watching a lacklustre England performance against a lesser footballing nation. I don't see the refrain changing any time soon. With the England camp already preparing to blame the Brazilian climate for an early exit from next summer's World Cup, only the most mindlessly optimistic Three Lions supporters are predicting a return to world-beating form in the foreseeable future. I was reminded of this 'we created it therefore we ought to be able to win at it' attitude at the Total Telecom Festival in London earlier this week, when some key players in the emerging 5G space took to the stage to discuss the development of the next generation of mobile technology…
