Teligent to extend functionality of BT’s RIDE call termination platform

Teligent Ltd, part of the Teligent Telecom Group, has been chosen by BT to comprehensively extend the functionality of the complete BT Recorded Information Delivery Equipment (RIDE) system, one of Europe’s largest in-network call termination platforms.

Teligent will deploy interactive voice response (IVR) functionality on RIDE, which also performs as an intelligent peripheral for BT’s hosted Intelligent Contact Manager (ICM) services and other IN triggered services. BT’s ICM delivers customer-facing voice response solutions that are used by major retail organisations in the UK to help automate caller transactions and provides call routing and IVR services for BT’s core IN network, including voice recognition options. Both services were previously supplied by Teligent in earlier upgrade orders.

Teligent is managing the programme to upgrade RIDE’s network nodes that will enable them to support both IP-NGN (21CN) and TDM calls. These hybrid nodes will be able to terminate calls across both network interfaces, giving optimum network flexibility and capacity for customers’ needs.

In addition, the RIDE platform will form an integral part of BT’s VOIP platform, providing in network call termination and IN capabilities.

The creation of a truly network agnostic platform provides a solution that allows BT to deal with the uncertainties presented by the time-scales for migration whilst providing a seamless service to its customers. Teligent has a proven track record in delivering this type of project for BT.”

BT’s RIDE terminates calls as near to their origin as possible, thus maximising the number of effective, completed calls. It offers highly complex voting and competition services with the ability to greet callers with announcements, capture caller data, accept voting options, and select winners.

These features, together with the ability to terminate huge volumes of calls, made it possible for BT to provide applications used by major TV shows incorporating voting or competition mechanisms. Finals of shows such as X Factor have seen UK voting records smashed with over 225,000 votes registered in a single minute.

Using its patented P90/E single-platform architecture for converged services, Teligent enables operators and carriers to host and deliver value-added solutions on mobile, fixed and IP networks. These solutions support customers’ individual communications and marketing needs, and include advanced call handling and completion, messaging, mass calling and next-generation IN services.
