ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, and BASE, the Belgian subsidiary of Dutch mobile operator KPN, have launched BASE’s 4G services in Belgium.

BASE has launched 4G services in 15 cities and is the second operator to provide 4G in Belgium. During the announcement event in Brussels, a 4G smart phone with only two signal bars reached download speeds of up to 42 Mbps, and multimedia files played clearly and smoothly.

With a Uni-RAN solution that supports smooth evolution and good equipment performance, ZTE helped to construct BASE’s high-quality UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) and HSPA (high-speed packet access) dual carrier networks in Belgium. ZTE’s engineering team also helped BASE to construct the high-quality 4G network.

Jos Donvil, CEO of BASE, said: “As the second operator to roll out 4G in Belgium, it is important to meet the new needs of our customers. In recent years we’ve seen the number of smartphones and the data usage on these devices skyrocket. Customers use their mobile phones for much more than just calling and sending text messages, and that evolution is continuing. As a challenger on the mobile market, we always want to give our customers the ultimate user experience."

Li Jun, General Manager of ZTE in Benelux and Germany, said: "I am very pleased that ZTE has been able to help BASE roll-out its 4G services. I am confident that with this new 4G network ZTE can help BASE to build an even stronger position in the Belgian mobile market. For ZTE, this is really a milestone event as we have successfully launched another 4G network with a European operator, significantly enhancing our 4G footprint in Europe.”

ZTE is a major global provider of end-to-end integrated 4G solutions and services and a reliable strategic partner. By June 2013, ZTE had obtained 60 4G commercial contracts and 40 EPC (evolved packet core) commercial contracts. With leading 4G end-to-end solutions as well as partnerships with major operators around the world, ZTE has carried out 4G trial networks with more than 140 operators. ZTE has successfully launched commercial 4G services for China Mobile, Telenor, TeliaSonera, Bharti, Hutchison, and Telstra.
