Opinion divided on voice usage among younger generation, while telcos debate willingness to pay for HD voice.

Teenagers don't talk. That is the received wisdom in the telecoms space at present. We've heard it countless times: the younger generation sends approximately 183 bazillion text messages per day (each) and every school kid - in the developed world, at least – is the proud owner of several dozen OTT messaging accounts. "They are not speaking to each other on the phone," said Ben Atherton, CEO of ad-funded data-only MVNO Samba Mobile at Carriers World earlier this week, referring to a group of around 100 17-18-year-olds he addressed recently. "If I want to talk to somebody I have to first make sure they are over 30!" While that does often seem to be the case, not everyone is convinced.
