BlackBerry to lose $1bn in Q2, slash workforce

Canadian smartphone maker to cut 4,500 jobs, reducing its workforce to 7,500; BB10 sales weak in Q2.

BlackBerry late last week confirmed rumours that it will cut a sizeable portion of its workforce and that second-quarter results will make for uncomfortable reading. The Canadian handset maker late Friday revealed that it will shed 4,500 jobs, or around 35% of its global staff, as part of a restructuring programme aimed at cutting opex by 50% by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2015…
