Aggregated location data worth $11bn to telcos by 2016

JDSU study says retailers, transport providers, advertisers will line up to pay operators for trend data.

Anonymous, aggregated location data will be worth $11 billion to mobile operators by 2016, predicted JDSU on Thursday. A study carried out by STL Partners on behalf of the network testing and analytics provider concluded that demand for what it calls location insight services (LIS) will be driven predominantly by retailers that want to know more about local market trends and benchmark themselves against their competitors (see table)…
