Orascom renews Zimbabwe licence

Telecel to pay US$137.5 million for a 20-year licence extension; shareholder dispute still unresolved.

Orascom Telecom on Wednesday announced that it has renewed its mobile licence in Zimbabwe, but questions still remain over its stake in local operator Telecel. In a short release the Egyptian telco, majority-owned by Vimpelcom, said it has reached an agreement with the Zimbabwean government and telecoms regulator POTRAZ to renew its 2G and 3G licence for a period of 20 years…
