Service providers grappling with the challenge of telecom fraud must sharpen their tool kit with “VoIP Age” tools that spot revenue leaks quickly when the first line ofdefence doesn't succeed. Using Call Pattern Monitor, Metaswitch's forensic analysis tool, service providers can continue to benefit from the flexibility and budgetary advantages of VoIP while minimising the impact of malicious attack, brute force cracking and the associated loss of revenue and reputation.

Highlights:

A Session Border Controller is an essential first line ofdefenceagainst well-known SIP-based attacks such as denial of service, but it’s not going to safeguard you against an exploitation of weak or compromised SIP passwords, which fraudsters have gleaned via other means such as phishing.

Call Pattern Monitor provides real-time alerts that are easily accessible to key operational staff via email.

Real-time analysis can catch new attacks on day zero through historical analysis, which looks at subscribers’ typical calling patterns – time of day, types of call, call length.

Tight integration with Metaswitch products allows for quick analysis of alerted call records and rapid deployment of blacklisting or other controls to terminate fraudulent use.

Call Pattern Monitor is available as a hosted solution, using proven cloud technology infrastructure, or as a hardware solution for carrier deployment.

"Times have moved on a lot from blue boxes and the phreaking exploits of the TDM world, to the point where techniques refined during two decades of computer-based viruses and consumer deception are now being used to extort $40 billion a year from voice service providers worldwide," said Paul Brittain, vice president of VoIP & Multimedia Products at Metaswitch. "Call Pattern Monitor is giving service providers protection and peace of mind from the onslaught of theft and potential disruption to their subscribers.
