Ericsson CFO backs telco consolidation despite short-term uncertainty

Swedish vendor says fewer, stronger operators would have better capex prospects.

Ericsson's chief financial officer Jan Frykhammar on Thursday backed consolidation among operators, even though it leaves fewer players for vendors to sell to. He admitted to Total Telecom that mergers and acquisitions typically create a period of six-to-12 months of uncertainty over how much focus two telcos will give to capital expenditure while they are in the process of integrating their respective businesses…
