Lines akin to the one above appeared in one form or another all over the wires this week after the Dish chairman's pursuit of Sprint and Clearwire officially came to an end, with Sprint completing its takeover of Clearwire on Tuesday, and Japan's Softbank closing its $21.6 billion acquisition of Sprint on Thursday.
Dish needs to do something. It has spent big to acquire 45-MHz of spectrum, which is sizeable but not enough to take on the big guns like AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint/Clearwire alone. Added to that is the expense of building and operating a standalone network in a market with four nationwide competitors…
