Orange seeks Myanmar partner, big telcos need not apply

French operator says it will not make same mistake as Vodafone/China Mobile; predicts spend of around $1 billion in Myanmar.

With just two weeks to go until Myanmar announces the winners of the two mobile operating licences it has put up for sale, the hopeful bidders are making plans for what they will do if they are successful. Orange is no exception and a top company executive, speaking to Total Telecom at a media event in Paris last week, indicated that the telco believes it has a good chance of securing a licence and is very clear on what its next steps will be, and what it will cost to roll out services in Myanmar…
