Friday Review: Hyperbole bites

We love a bit of hyperbole in this industry. Every press conference, email, presentation and Webcast talks of tsunami this, explosion that, not to mention the now legendary battle royale with extra cheese, or something. It's understandable. Telecoms is a sector in which – with a fair bit of work – a lot of things are quantifiable to the nth degree, so why should we settle for yet another compound annual growth rate (or CAGR if you like, but acronyms are a whole other Friday Review) when there are reams of apocalyptic metaphors just begging to be used. Not I. I want to hear of impending upheaval…
