Ezwim, the European market leader in Telecom Management Technology, today released the results of the Ezwim Telecom Monitor 2013.

Important key finding:
“Our findings prove that Telecom Expense Management is a serious consideration for companies that want to cut costs,” according to Bram Cool, Managing Director of Ezwim. “Employees are making fever service calls because of available smart mobile apps. The growing use of these web based applications has led to a 10% decrease in use of mobile phones.”

Other findings:
• The decrease in cost per MB is off-set by the growth of the total usage in MB’s while the total data costs remain at the same level
• The price per MB of mobile data in the US is 8 times as expensive as in the Netherlands.
• The costs for data usage grow exponentially in traditional holiday destinations during holiday season
• A BYOD (Bring-Your-Own-Device) strategy is not necessarily more expensive than other forms of mobile subscriptions
• On average, 22% of mobile phones costs paid for by the employer are “personal” in nature such as private phone calls

In respect to the employer – employee relationship and the subject of business & private calls the Ezwim Telecom Monitor shows that 20 to 25% of all calls on a company phone are of a personal nature. Experience shows us that employees are willing to pay for these calls as long as the employer is able to identify these costs.

Hein Remmen, Director of Product Management: “With this report we would like to stress the importance of reporting tools and knowledge when it comes to telecom usage. It is essential that CFO’s, IT Managers and / or Telecom Managers are given the right tools to manage an organization. We continue to be amazed by the extreme differences in telecom expenses per region. A price per MB in the US is 8 times as expensive as in the Netherlands.
The costs associated with private phone calls during the holidays on company mobile phones are extremely high. Using public wifi would be a method to get these costs down”.

The Ezwim Telecom Monitor is the annual report that shows the most complete non-biased mobile cost analysis over the last year. The data is gathered using a representative sample of the international Ezwim client list.
