Nokia among smartphone 'also rans' as Chinese growth continues

As Finnish vendor launches new Lumia device, analyst firm reveals it is now ranked 10th in terms of global smartphone market share.

Nokia dropped to tenth position in the global smartphone market share rankings in the first quarter of this year, having failed to capture a significant slice of the 210 million units sold, according to statistics published by Gartner on Tuesday. Smartphone sales rose by 42.9% year-on-year in Q1, accounting for almost half of the 426 million mobile phones shipped worldwide, the analyst firm said.
