Friday Review: Internet insanity

This week's news highlights see telcos queuing up to enter high-growth markets and M&A developments in Europe and the U.S.

It's official: Londoners have lost their minds. According to a survey of 1,000 London commuters last month, the results of which were published this week, people are more concerned about the prospect of losing Internet access than other basic utilities. 38% said they would be "most stressed out" by not having home Internet access, survey commissioner Infosecurity Europe said, while 32% named loss of water as a more stressful situation and 18% said heating. Where do they find these people?! Admittedly, being without the Internet can be annoying, but not being able to watch an online video of a stranger's baby biting his big brother is hardly in the same league as having no water to drink, wash with, run the central heating or, worst of all, make a cup of tea. And it gets worse. A full 27% of respondents "just couldn't live without any Internet connection", up from 17% in the same survey last year…
