Verwaayen steps down as Alcatel-Lucent losses widen

Equipment maker posts €1.37 billion net loss in Q4; sales in Europe, China continue to be slow.

Alcatel-Lucent on Thursday announced it has accepted the resignation of chief executive Ben Verwaayen and has begun the process of searching for a replacement. The news came as the Franco-U.S. equipment maker reported fourth-quarter and full-year 2012 results that showed it has exceeded cost-savings targets, but experienced a decline in revenues and wider losses than in the year-ago periods. Verwaayen said the decision not to seek a further term as CEO was a difficult one…
