Telco hacks inspired by fluctuating fortunes of industry's fruitiest players; plus the week's news highlights.

"This industry needs a new fruit," declared an esteemed industry colleague on Thursday. The remark, which may or may not have been made in a pub, was a reaction to Apple's underwhelming Q4 performance and the ongoing uncertainty over the future of BlackBerry maker RIM. "How about lychee?" Someone suggested. What was meant as one of those random, off-the-cuff ideas soon got me thinking: lychees come from China, and if Bloomberg's report is anything to go by, RIM is firmly in the sights of Chinese PC maker Lenovo, which has a team of people currently working on possible M&A options.
