Nokia swings to profit in Q4, but concerns remain

Finnish vendor reports declining mobile phone and smartphone shipments; Nokia Siemens Networks turns in strong performance.

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop delivered an upbeat fourth-quarter results presentation on Thursday, but a close look at the Finnish vendor's KPIs show that it still has a lot of work to do to secure its position in the mobile handset space. The Finnish vendor swung to an operating profit of €439 million, reversing a €954 million loss from the year-ago quarter. However, a poor first half dragged down full-year results; for 2012 as a whole Nokia posted an operating loss of €2.3 billion, more than double its 2011 loss.
